The University of Hong Kong (HKU) hosted a Virtual Information Day (IDay) for undergraduate admissions today (October 30, Saturday). Admission talks have taken place to provide important information, including admission scores for 2021 admission and the latest admission requirements and advice.
In addition to introducing important admission requirements, various industry gurus were invited to talk about the demands for talent in specific fields and the latest employment trends at this year’s IDAY. Guest speakers included Mr. Albert Wong, Chairman and CEO, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; Mr. Fred Sheu, National Technology Officer of Microsoft Hong Kong and Mr. Bryan Wang, Director of Marketing Science of Facebook Greater China. Industry leaders participated in a panel discussion on the growing importance of big data and digitization and how HKU programs can meet market demand.
Over 100 live sessions were held, covering individual program characteristics and program information. The students also shared with the public their experiences of campus life and internship programs.
HKU will launch seven new undergraduate programs in the 2022-2023 academic year, including five big data-focused programs and two professional programs. Please refer to Annex I for details of new programs.
“HKU’s programs are designed to keep pace with the times. Students with different ambitions can learn and master new knowledge and research trends in their respective fields. The programs aim to give students multiple perspectives through learning experiences inside and outside the classroom, ”said Professor Bennett Yim, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Exchange of students, HKU.
Prof Yim said HKU’s program meets the needs of students, citing two elite courses launched in 2021-2022 as examples. The Faculty of Science’s double degree program, 6688 Science Master Class, aims to train a new generation of scientific researchers, capable of translating scientific knowledge into practical applications with far-reaching impacts. The program is designed for elite students interested in scientific research and is taught by Masters of Science who are renowned faculty scientists. Students will have the chance to gain hands-on experience by participating in cutting-edge scientific research and learning through the Grand Masters in special tutorials.
The 6418 Bachelor of Nursing – Advanced Leadership Track (BNurs-ALT) is designed for top performing students, who aspire to pursue advanced and specialized nursing practice or a career as a nurse-physician in the healthcare sector. After completing the 5-year BNurs study program, students will have the opportunity to join the HKU Master of Nursing (MNurs) or HKU Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) courses, and will be able to obtain two professional degrees. in six or nine years respectively.
“The first cohort of students in the Science Master Class have already been awarded Science Masters as academic advisers, based on their research interests and aspirations. The first year students of the Advanced Leadership Track under the Bachelor of Nursing also received personal mentors to develop their professional skills, with leadership training and experiential learning opportunities, ”added Prof. Yim .
The University will also launch activities on the “Be My Guests” campus in November, where different faculties will organize face-to-face discussion sessions, lab tours and workshops to allow potential students to learn more. on their favorite programs and explore the HKU campus. in person.
